This magazine has very little illustration and relies mainly on its wonderful columns. Liberal and opinionated, this magazine will be well-liked by the bleeding hearts and hated by conservatives.

Mother Jones Magazine is a great investigative reporting magazine. It's a liberal publication but it's not so politically correct that it offends common sensibilities. It's a good source for learning about relatively unknown individuals and organizations and policies (e.g. Obiang of Equatorial Guinea) that impact their corner of our world in unimaginable (often egregious) ways. Mother Jones will make you think about the issues on which it reports even after you've put down the magazine. A definite must read for those who care about justice/injustice in the world around them.

Contrary to the mythology perpetuated by the Right-Wing politicos currently in control of the inner workings of our Federal administration, the mainstream media is not, in fact, controlled by the Left. It is, in fact, as many thoughtful commentators have pointed out, being increasingly manipulated by the Right, itself. In this "Bizarre News" world of Rupert Murdock, Fox 'news', rigged election results and multiple fabricated conservative realities, Mother Jones is a true breath of fresh air. In its pages, the Liberal press lives on!
In a style perhaps more sophisticated, but no less compelling and informative than the Realist of the 60's, Mother Jones fills in the gaps and corrects for the deliberately created distortions as reported by the mainstream press - on radio, TV and in print. Someone is lying. Reading each issue of Mother Jones helps me and my household keep some clarity about who, exactly, that is. We are Democrats, Liberals - and proud of both monikers. Mother Jones is an integral part of keeping our identities and values informed by well researched, thoughtful analysis and overall good journalism.

As a centrist democrat I have been a devotee of Mother Jones magazine since the early Clinton administration. Especially recently, with politics in Washington as they are, Mother Jones is perhaps the finest source of progressive writing and thought widely available in traditional magazine form. The articles, while definitely liberal are far more than ratings of the left wing; they are well reasoned and researched and never fail to inform. Every issue is a cover to cover read. I highly recommend this magazine to anyone that is concerned about the current state of national and world affairs; a magazine that is too important to ignore or pass up.
